It would be an understatement to say that I have been influenced by a number of comic artists while growing up. Crumb, Bode are but two of the greats. Somehow a mounted alien looking over a unfamiliar landscape is the perfect reflection of the human condition. I have a list of captions that I am constantly massaging for the good or towards the bad. I often take one of these captions and draw to fit. Last week, however, I decided to free draw. What ever dribbled out of my fingers was allowed to “be.” Afterwards I had the dubious job of writing a caption to fit. After a few false starts with “fools rush in where angels fear to tread,” I opted for our protagonist taking a left turn and realizing that he might be more lost than he first imagined.

Drawing score: 6/10
Caption score: 5/10
Bonus points: 4/5 (Purple pus balloons for the win.)
